I just recently switched from Google Chrome to Safari due to performance and privacy reasons and one thing that irks me is that when I open a new tab or window, the cursor is focused on the home page that you set by default.

Here are the steps on how to set the cursor focus to the address bar on new tab/window:
1. Open Safari Preference.
2. Go to General Tab.
3. Set New windows open with: Empty Page.
4. Set New tabs open with: Empty Page.

Now, everytime you open a new tab/window, your cursor will be in your Safari address bar by default.
